Non-typhoidal Salmonella are important foodborne pathogens that cause gastroenteritis, bacteremia, and subsequent focal infection. Resistant bacteria are especially problematic in a wide variety of immunocompromised individuals, including patients with malignancy, and those receiving corticosteroid therapy or treatment with other immunotherapy agents.
